KATHMANDU, Dec 30: Traffic along the East–West Mahendra Highway has been disrupted after an LPG tanker overturned near Lamaha Bridge on the Chandranigahapur–Dhansar section in Rautahat on Monday morning, causing a gas leak.
The tanker (registration number UP 17 AT 2114), which was transporting LPG from Raxaul, India, to Mahendranagar in Dhanusha, met with an accident while en route. The driver, 35-year-old Pawan Yadav of Jaynagar, Kadora district in India, sustained injuries and is currently undergoing treatment at the Civil Hospital in Chandranigahapur, according to Rautahat District Traffic Police Chief Rajendra Thapa Magar.

Following the accident, vehicles coming from the east have been stopped near the District Traffic Police Office in Chandranigahapur, while those approaching from the west have been halted near Dhansar Bridge. The highway remains blocked as the tanker lies across the road, and the ongoing gas leakage has heightened the risk in the area.
Traffic police said a team of technicians from a gas company in Janakpur is on the way to manage the leak and remove the tanker. Until then, authorities have urged caution and restricted vehicle movement to prevent further danger.
