KATHMANDU, Nov 11: The Gen Z Movement Nepal has demanded the immediate dismissal of Energy Minister Kulman Ghising and the registration of a corruption case at the Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) over his alleged involvement in a controversial power purchase deal with India.
The movement has expressed serious concern over the Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) signed between the Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) and India’s private firm PTC India, which, it claims, has caused a financial loss of Rs 430 million to Nepal.

In a statement issued by its spokesperson Bijay Shah, the movement said an investigation under the Money Laundering Prevention Act should be initiated against Minister Ghising and NEA Managing Director Manoj Silwal for “making decisions outside the legal framework.” The statement further demanded that both officials be suspended immediately pending investigation.
The Gen Z Movement has also urged the Electricity Regulatory Commission (ERC) to form an independent inquiry committee to probe the deal and to make all power purchase agreements public in the interest of transparency and accountability.
The PPA between NEA and PTC India was signed on October 13 and has since drawn widespread criticism from political and civil society groups, who allege irregularities and a compromise of national interest.
