KATHMANDU, Sept 28: The government collected cash fines worth Rs 9.28 million from traders involved in anomalies in the past two months.
According to the Department of Commerce, Supplies and Consumer Protection, it collected the aforementioned amount in cash fines from 154 business entities in the review period.

The Department of Commerce imposed a total fine of Rs 92,080,000 on 154 business establishments in the two months of the current fiscal year. Amit Jha, director of market monitoring at the department, informed that around 19 percent of 822 business outlets inspected as of Saturday since the start of the current fiscal year were found guilty.
Large amounts of cash fines were collected from businesses like consultancies, food outlets, ready-made and wholesale clothing stores, auto parts, cosmetics, hotels and restaurants, furniture, footwear, electrical shops, dairy, department stores, schools, and colleges.
The government collected fines worth Rs 3.17 million from consultancies, Rs 1.08 million from food sellers, Rs 417,000 from readymade clothing stores, Rs 335,000 from auto parts businesses, Rs 481,000 from hotels and restaurants, Rs 323,000 from furniture showrooms, Rs 255,000 from schools and colleges, Rs 225,000 from dairies, Rs 225,000 from electric shops and Rs 1.49 million under miscellaneous heading.
The department destroyed substandard products worth Rs 55,000 during the review period. Apart from its regular monitoring, the department mobilized six dedicated joint monitoring teams to check possible market misconduct during the festive season.
