KATHMANDU, Jan 28: The Health Insurance Board has urged both service recipients and service providers to play a responsible role in making the Health Insurance Program effective and sustainable.

Issuing an appeal on Tuesday, the Insurance Board has urged service recipients to use health services responsibly, not to misuse insurance services, and not to exert pressure on doctors or health workers for unnecessary laboratory tests.

Similarly, service-providing health institutions have been requested to fully comply with the prevailing laws, procedures, and circulars issued by the Board, to conduct check-ups, laboratory tests, and treatment only on the basis of justification.

Despite limited resources and some structural challenges, about 50,000 citizens are currently receiving services through health insurance every day, due to which an average daily expenditure of Rs. 80 million is being avoided from the pockets of the common citizen, ensuring financial security, the board has stated.

Responding to service disruption in some service-providing health institutions, the Board has expressed its commitment to resolve the matter and make the health insurance program more robust, systematic, effective and citizen-friendly.
