KATHMANDU, Oct 22: Dhanteras, first day of Tihar festival, is being celebrated across the country today. People are buying utensils, gold and silver jewelry and coins to mark the festival.
As part of the Tihar festival celebrations, the items purchased today are used during the Lakshmi Pooja held on Kartik Krishna Aunsi. It is a Vedic Sanatan Hindu religious belief that the goddess of wealth Lakshmi will continue to bless the family if Laxmi is worshiped this way.

The celebration of Tihar festival also starts today with lighting of homes, commercial establishments and other places.
