KATHMANDU, Dec 15: Senior Vice-Chairperson of the CPN-UML Ishwar Pokhrel has underscored collective leadership in the party.
In the closed session of the UML's ongoing 11th General Convention at Bhrikutimandap in Kathmandu on Sunday, senior Vice-Chairperson Pokhrel urged all to strengthen collective leadership in the party.

Pressing for taking the party forward through norms and rule, he emphasized that the democratic concept of the party proposed by party Chairperson KP Sharma Oli should be implemented practically. Pokhrel asserted that there was no alternative to the party but to move ahead by learning from the party's past experiences and weaknesses.
The leader, also former Deputy Prime Minister, underlined the need to review the weakness of the party that was leading the government when the Gen Z revolt took place. Pokhrel argued that if democracy within the party weakens, it will weaken the system.
On a different note, he expressed in favour of unity with those subscribing to the leftist ideologies. During the closed session, a concept paper presented by Pokhrel had been distributed to the attending representatives coming from across the country.
The 11th General Convention of the UML kicked off on Saturday. Around 2,200 representatives will elect a new leadership in the 3-day convention.
