KATHMANDU, Dec 1: The 13th Korean Ambassador International Open Taekwondo Championships 2025 began on Monday at the Nepal Taekwondo Association hall in Kathmandu and will run until December 5.
The event is jointly organized by the Embassy of the Republic of Korea in Nepal and the Nepal Taekwondo Association. In his opening remarks, South Korean Ambassador Tae-young Park highlighted Taekwondo as Korea’s traditional martial art that has evolved into a global sport, uniting people through discipline, respect, and patience. He reaffirmed Korea’s commitment to strengthening cooperation with Nepal in sports and culture, noting Nepal’s growing success on the international Taekwondo stage.

Ambassador Park also praised Nepali para-athlete Palesha Goverdhan, who made history by winning a bronze medal at the 2024 Paris Paralympics, saying her achievement brought immense pride to both nations and reflected their shared sporting heritage.
This year’s championships have expanded into a fully international event, featuring participants from four neighbouring countries — India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, and Bhutan. Around 1,500 athletes are competing for 103 gold medals.
