KATHMANDU, Jan 3: Sachin Dhakal, whose name was included in the closed Proportional Representation (PR) list of the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP), has announced the withdrawal of his candidacy amid controversy. Dhakal made the announcement through a lengthy post on Facebook on Saturday.
In his statement, Dhakal wrote, “At a time when social transformation and national development through the promotion of entrepreneurship are essential and young people are stepping forward for this cause, I express my heartfelt gratitude to the party leadership for including my name in the proportional representation list.”

However, Dhakal, who is also the chairman of Football Club Chitwan, said he has decided to withdraw his name from the list for personal reasons, while respecting the spirit and values of the PR system as enshrined in the Constitution of Nepal.
He further stated that despite receiving numerous opportunities abroad after completing his studies, he returned to Nepal with a firm resolve to contribute as much as possible to the country’s prosperity through entrepreneurship. He added that he has been promoting entrepreneurship inspired by his father Chandra Prasad Dhakal.
Earlier, following controversy surrounding several names on the RSP’s PR list, singer Dr Trishala Gurung and popular host Asif Sheikh had also withdrawn their candidacies on Saturday.
