Exports via Birgunj checkpoint reach Rs 17 billion in two months

According to Bishnu Prasad Gyawali, Chief Customs Administrator at Birgunj Customs Office, exports in the review period were more than Rs 10.98 billion higher than the Rs 6.05 billion recorded in the first two months of the previous fiscal year.

KATHMANDU, Sept 26: Nepal exported goods Rs 17.03 billion through the Birgunj checkpoint in the first two months of the current fiscal year 2025/26, marking a 181 percent increase compared to the same period last year.



According to Bishnu Prasad Gyawali, Chief Customs Administrator at Birgunj Customs Office, exports in the review period were more than Rs 10.98 billion higher than the Rs 6.05 billion recorded in the first two months of the previous fiscal year.

“The ratio of exports to imports through Birgunj has improved significantly,” Gyawali said, “While last year’s ratio was 1:20, it now stands at 1:6.”


Key export items included refined soybean oil: 428.2 million liters worth Rs 8.84 billion, compared to just 480 liters worth Rs 300,000 last year, fruit juice: 126.9 million liters worth Rs 1.24 billion, slightly down from Rs 1.29 billion for 136.5 million liters last year, refined sunflower oil: 341.1 million liters worth Rs 1.17 billion, with negligible exports in the same period last year.
