KATHMANDU, March 29: The government has announced plans to remove party-affiliated student organizations from schools and universities within 60 days as part of its recently approved 100-point governance reform agenda.
The decision, endorsed by the first Cabinet meeting led by Prime Minister Balen Shah, aims to curb political interference in the education sector and improve academic quality.
Govt agrees to reduce illegally hiked school fees within 15 day...
According to the plan, existing student wings linked to political parties will be dismantled within two months, while an alternative mechanism—such as student councils or “voice of students” platforms—will be developed within 90 days to ensure representation.
The reform agenda also includes aligning the publication of undergraduate and postgraduate results with a fixed academic calendar provided by the Ministry of Education, Science, and Technology.
Additionally, universities will be required to make procedural arrangements so that students can enroll in undergraduate programs without needing citizenship documents.
The government has also decided to discontinue internal examinations for students up to Grade 5 starting the next academic session, replacing them with alternative evaluation systems designed to reduce psychological pressure on children.
