JANAKPURDHAM, Jan 29: The number of missing persons in Madhesh Province has reached alarming levels, the Madhesh Province Police Office said.
Statistics presented at a press conference on Wednesday at the Madhesh Province Police Office in Janakpurdham showed a rising trend in missing persons across districts of the province. According to police spokesperson Kamal Thapa, 2,572 individuals went missing in Madhesh Province in the last six months alone.

Of these, 1,448 went missing in the month of Poush (mid-December to mid-January). During these six months, 1,501 missing persons have been found, while the rest remain uncontactable, the spokesperson said.
Thapa also released details of damage during the January 24 NGO–INGO protests. According to him, four people died in Madhesh Province during the protests. A total of 234 government offices were damaged across the province.
The total estimated loss to government offices is Rs 5,735,52,125. Police vehicles were also damaged during the protests, with total losses estimated at Rs 2,06,78,380, Thapa said.
He added that 1,045 prisoners escaped from various jails across Madhesh during the protests. Of these, 579 have been recaptured, while the others remain at large. In addition, 68 juveniles escaped from child reform homes; 20 have been caught and 48 remain missing.
Thapa further stated that Madhesh Province has a total of 2,160 polling stations across 32 constituencies. Of these, 159 are classified as general, 755 as sensitive, and 1,246 as highly sensitive. Security personnel deployment at these locations has been determined according to the sensitivity of each polling station.
