LALITPUR, April 23: The statue of Rato Machhindranath, revered by locals in Lalitpur, is receiving its annual coat of paint in preparation for the upcoming Dash Karma rituals. The intricate painting work, which started on Tuesday, is expected to be completed by Thursday.
The task is being carried out by local painters, Gambhir Neku and Amir Neku, who have taken on the responsibility of bringing the statue to life with vibrant colors. The painting process typically takes about three to four days to complete, ensuring the statue's surface is primed for its ceremonial role during the Dash Karma.
Rato Machhindranath's chariot procession begins today
The face and body of Machindranath are being painted with a rich crimson, symbolizing vitality and strength. For the eyes, lime and "mohani" are carefully applied, adding to the statue's intricate details and lifelike aura.
Once the painting is finished, the statue will be placed in a designated corner of the Machindranath Temple in Taha Bahal, where it will be prepared for the Dash Karma rituals, a significant event in the local religious calendar.
