KATHMANDU, Dec 28: Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) leader Sobita Gautam has described party chair Rabi Lamichhane as the “Supreme Commander of the Blue Revolution” following a broad political unity between Lamichhane and Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) Mayor Balendra Shah (Balen).
Gautam made the remarks after Lamichhane and Balen signed a unity agreement, marking a significant consolidation among forces positioning themselves as alternatives to Nepal’s traditional political establishment. Earlier, Gautam had publicly stated that “RSP is the hope of the future.”

According to the agreement, Lamichhane will continue as the central chairperson of the party, while Balen will become the leader of the parliamentary party and the prime ministerial candidate after the upcoming House of Representatives (HoR) election.
The deal also commits the party to embracing the youth-led movement against corruption and poor governance, with provisions to appropriately address the demands of injured protesters and families of those killed during the movement.
The agreement further states that the unified political force will continue under the RSP name, retain its election symbol and operate from the same party office, while expanding organizational structures to ensure greater participation of young people.
The unity has sparked widespread political debate, with supporters portraying it as a defining moment for Nepal’s emerging “blue revolution.”
