Seven, including five Bangladeshis, arrested for unlawful confinement, fraud

A team from the Kathmandu District Police Range arrested seven people who allegedly rented a house in Bhangal, Budhanilkantha Municipality–8, brought Bangladeshi nationals from Bangladesh to Kathmandu on the promise of sending them to Italy for foreign employment, and then held them hostage and defrauded them. The suspects were made public on Tuesday.

KATHMANDU, Feb 5: Nepal Police have arrested a gang involved in unlawful confinement and fraud.



A team from the Kathmandu District Police Range arrested seven people who allegedly rented a house in Bhangal, Budhanilkantha Municipality–8, brought Bangladeshi nationals from Bangladesh to Kathmandu on the promise of sending them to Italy for foreign employment, and then held them hostage and defrauded them. The suspects were made public on Tuesday.

Those arrested include Bangladeshi nationals living in Kathmandu: 38-year-old Al Mamun, 39-year-old Bilal Mamun, 29-year-old Rivan Biswas, 43-year-old Babu Husein, and 40-year-old YMD Masibur Rahman. Also arrested are 41-year-old Saroj Kumar from India and 32-year-old Shashi Pathak from Nuwakot.


Spokesperson of the Kathmandu District Police Range, Superintendent Pawan Kumar Bhattarai, said the arrests were made following information that Bangladeshi nationals were being held hostage and cheated at a rented house.


All seven suspects have been sent to the Kathmandu District Court, which has granted a five-day remand for investigation on charges related to unlawful confinement and fraud.


Another reminder that fake foreign job promises keep thriving, because there is always someone ready to turn hope into a trap.
