Students’ organizations, trade unions scrapped as an attempt to save the future: PM Shah

KATHMANDU, May 5: Prime Minister Balendra Shah has said that the decision to scrap student organizations and employee trade unions is an effort to “save the future.”



His remarks come amid growing protests against the government’s move to abolish these bodies. He said, “This is an attempt to save the future. It is an effort to bring the country out of partisan capture and toward an institutional path.”

He further said the move is aimed at freeing educational institutions and the bureaucracy from political influence. “We have, through an ordinance, removed these distortions as per your own expectations,” he said.


Taking to social media, Prime Minister Shah also claimed that the abolition of student organizations and trade unions is not a fight against any political party.


He wrote, “We want students to learn politics, but a politics of civility, ideas, and responsibility; we want employees to learn public service, not service to any party. This is not a fight against any party. It is an effort to save the system.”
