CHITWAN, Sept 15: Construction of a new track at Krishnabhir along the Prithvi Highway has reached its final stage after a landslide completely blocked the road.
Work on cutting the hillside and levelling the road was completed on Sunday, allowing a few vehicles to pass on a trial basis. Following the successful test, construction has been accelerated to resume regular traffic.
Engineer Ishwar Nepal of the construction company responsible for the new track said gravelling, slope cutting and drainage work were underway on the 11th day of construction.

“We are working to fully resume traffic from September 17,” Nepal said. The project initially deployed 11 to 12 pieces of equipment for nine to 10 days. About 40 to 50 skilled and unskilled workers are now engaged, along with five to six pieces of heavy equipment, including graders, rollers and excavators.
The roughly 300-metre track has a seven-metre-wide roadway and a total structure of about 7.5 metres, including drainage. River gravel is being used for surfacing, while drains and pipes are being installed along the roadside.
Nepal warned that the section remains somewhat risky and said the deadline could be met if no further landslides occur.
Sachendra Mishra, information officer of the Nagdhunga-Muglin Road Project, Western Section, said finishing work was underway after grading was completed. He clarified that the vehicles allowed through on Sunday were only for testing.
“The new track is not open to the general public. A few vehicles were allowed through only for testing,” Mishra said. Regular traffic is expected to resume from September 17 if construction proceeds without further problems.
