KATHMANDU, June 5: Traffic police took action against 2,300 motorists across the Kathmandu Valley in the past 24 hours, collecting Rs 2.084 million in fines from traffic rule violations.
According to the Kathmandu Valley Traffic Police Office, drunk driving remained a major offence, with 104 motorists penalized. Another 177 were booked for operating ride-sharing services in violation of regulations, while 147 were fined for ignoring traffic signals and 105 for overspeeding.

Lane discipline violations also drew significant enforcement, with 56 drivers penalized. Authorities further booked 152 motorists for unnecessary honking in prohibited areas, 113 for illegal roadside parking, and 141 for driving against one-way traffic rules.
The largest share of offenders—1,305 drivers—were penalized for various other traffic violations, highlighting the continued challenge of maintaining road discipline in the Valley.
