NAWALPARASI, Dec 31: Travel along the Daunne section of the Narayanghat–Butwal road continues to remain difficult, as the stretch has yet to become fully passable since it was obstructed last Monday. Vehicular movement has been repeatedly disrupted due to slippery road conditions caused by the ongoing cold wave.

Superintendent of Police Yubraj Khadka of the District Police Office, Nawalparasi (Bardaghat Susta East), said vehicles began skidding in the Khursanikhola area of Daunne on Monday morning, making it difficult for them to negotiate the uphill section.

“The western part of the Daunne stretch has become muddy and slippery due to dense mist associated with the cold wave. Vehicles are unable to move either uphill or downhill, resulting in repeated road blockages,” SP Khadka said. He added that although efforts are being made to restore traffic, managing vehicles stranded over the past three days has remained challenging.

Senior Deputy Superintendent of Police Binod Joshi of the District Traffic Police Office, Nawalparasi (Bardaghat Susta East), said heavy fog and poor road conditions have further complicated traffic management.

“Traffic congestion continues from Dumkibas Bazaar. As the highway is operating on a single lane due to ongoing road construction, managing the long queues of vehicles has been extremely difficult,” DSP Joshi said.

Engineer Bikas Khanal, information officer of the Narayanghat–Butwal Road Project (Western Section), said the cold wave has adversely affected both construction activities and traffic flow, leading to increased congestion in the western section.

Hundreds of passengers have been stranded as traffic congestion has persisted for three days. The Narayanghat–Butwal Road Project (Western Section) has urged motorists, except those providing essential services, to use alternative routes.
