Birgunj customs records Rs 18 billion worth of motor imports in six months

Imports of motor vehicles and their parts increased significantly this year, resulting in revenue collection of Rs 13.98 billion from these imports alone.

PARSA, Jan 31: Birgunj Customs Office recorded imports of motor vehicles and spare parts worth Rs 18.15 billion in the first half of the current fiscal year 2025/26. This figure is nearly Rs 6 billion higher than that of the corresponding period last fiscal year.



According to Birgunj Customs Office information officer Uday Singh Bista, imports of motor vehicles and their parts increased significantly this year, resulting in revenue collection of Rs 13.98 billion from these imports alone. During the corresponding period last fiscal year, revenue collected from such imports stood at Rs 10.21 billion.

The imports included 434 jeeps, cars and vans worth Rs 930 million; 32,331 unassembled motorcycles valued at Rs 4.56 billion; 380 trucks and mini-trucks worth Rs 1.06 billion; and 10,797 tractors and trailers valued at Rs 1.23 billion.


Similarly, imports of electric jeeps, cars and vans totaled 456 units, amounting to Rs 1.36 billion.
