KATHMANDU, Sept 15: The consumer price inflation hit 8.26 percent in the first month of the current fiscal year, almost double of the figure during the period last year.
According to ‘Current Macroeconomic and Financial Situation of Nepal’ unveiled by Nepal Rastra Bank (NRB) on Thursday, the consumer price inflation during mid-July and mid-August in the FY 2021/22 was 4.35 percent. The rise in consumer price was due to an increase in prices of food, non-food and services.

During the review period, the average of food and beverage inflation stood at 7.11 percent while those of non-food and services inflation stood at 9.18 percent. Under the food category, the prices of ghee and oil increased by 19.58 percent and fruits by 18.79 percent.
Likewise, under the non-food and services category, the prices of transportation, health, furnishing and household equipment and education rose by 23.88 percent, 10.54 percent, 9.04 percent and 8.11 percent, respectively.
Region wise, inflation in Terai was 8.72 percent, the biggest of all, during the review period. Likewise, the hilly region had inflation of 8.64 percent and it was 7.39 percent and 6.64 percent in the Kathmandu Valley and mountain, respectively, according to the NRB report.
