He had reached Bara after participating in the party´s Madhes Bureau State Secretariat-level orientation program.
“This government could have been given the shape of a national consensus government,” he said. “Internal strife in the UML has created an unfavorable situation for the Maoists to join the government.”
Dr Bhattarai argued that there is no point in objecting to the seven-point deal as ensuring peace and new constitution is not only the responsibility of a party. He said that all parties should rise above their partisan interests and think for the country and its people.
Asked if it was still possible to draft new constitution within next three months, Dr Bhattarai said that it was not impossible if all the parties arrived at consensus.
Dr Bhattarai said there is no point in celebrating Democracy Day as it is no longer relevant, especially as the country has already gone republic. He was of the opinion that the day monarchy was abolished should be celebrated as Democracy Day.
