KATHMANDU, Jan 23: The country has recorded 5,966 incidents of disaster across the country since the beginning of the Nepali New Year on April 14, 2025. According to the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority (NDRRMA), most of the disasters during the review period involved incidents of fire outbreaks. A total of 2,692 fire incidents occurred in which 75 people lost their lives while 442 people were injured and 2,996 families were affected.
In total, 424 people lost their lives and 1,643 people sustained injuries in such incidents. NDRRMA added that 38 people went missing and 11,535 families were affected in such incidents.

Similarly, the country recorded 577 incidents of landslides where 71 people were killed, 80 were injured and five are still missing.
A total of 316 incidents of floods took place during the period while 427 incidents of heavy rainfall, 352 of lightning, 580 of snakebites, 186 of forest fires, 290 of wind, 422 of animal attack were reported.
Likewise, 105 cases of high-altitude sickness were recorded since April 14 as well as five of avalanche, seven of earthquake, two of boat capsize, added the NDRRMA.
According to the NDRRMA, incidents of fire are on rise during the ongoing dry season.
