KATHMANDU, Jan 16: The dispute within the Nepali Congress (NC) has reached its peak. Tensions escalated after the Gagan Thapa–Bishwa Prakash Sharma faction elected a new Central Working Committee through a Special General Convention last Wednesday.
On Thursday, the newly appointed President Thapa’s faction approached the Election Commission (EC) to assert their legitimacy. Today, leaders from the Sher Bahadur Deuba faction visited the EC. Sources say Deuba’s team arrived at the EC office on Kantipath in Kathmandu early Friday morning.

Meanwhile, the NC’s sister organization, Nepal Tarun Dal, has staged a sit-in in front of the EC since early morning and has reportedly planned to surround the office.
The legitimacy of the party leadership remains in dispute following the Special General Convention organized by the Gagan–Bishwa faction.
