NEPALGUNJ, Dec 8: Finance Minister Rameshore Khanal inaugurated the customs assessment database system on Sunday.
On the occasion, Minister Khanal said that the database system launched at the Customs Office will help in reducing corruption and promoting good governance. "We have taken forward the work as per the government's responsibilities. We are also working with priority to reform the revenue system," he said.
Revised interest rate corridor system introduced
Stating that adequate facilities have been provided to taxpayers at all local levels of the country, he said that the revenue base will also be strengthened.
At the program, Revenue Secretary Bhupal Baral said that the database system has been implemented as per the demand of businesspersons to improve the customs system. “The responsibility to maintain good governance lies with both the private sector and the government. It is everyone’s responsibility to encourage legitimate trade,” he said.
Director General of the Department of Customs Shyam Prasad Bhandari said that collaboration with local administrations has been taken forward to prevent customs leakage and the database system launched today has been implemented in Nepal as well following international best practice. This system is necessary to detect under or overvalued goods and support anti-money laundering activities and ensure fairness, transparency, and uniformity in customs valuation.
