KATHMANDU, Oct 31: Preparations are underway to relocate the Ministry of Health and Population (MoHP) to the Singha Durbar premises. After its Ramshahpath-based building was destroyed by arson during the Gen Z protest on September 9, the ministry has been operating from the building of the Nepal Health Research Council.
MoHP Spokesperson Dr. Prakash Budhathoki informed Republica that the ministry will be relocated to the vacant land of the Nepali Army’s Nursing Battalion on the southwest side of the Singha Durbar compound.
Helipad to be constructed inside Singha Durbar
“Prefabricated structures are being built temporarily. Six prefab buildings are under construction on the land vacated after the army battalion moved to its own premises on the northern side. We are likely to move there after mid-November,” he said.
Dr. Budhathoki added that discussions were held about allocating the Parliament Secretariat building inside Singha Durbar to the Health Ministry as a permanent structure, but no decision has been finalized yet. Since the temporary buildings are expected to be ready by mid-November, the MoHP is likely to shift to Singha Durbar around that time.
