KATHMANDU, July 11: Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) has pledged humanitarian support to the family of Ganesh Nepali, who died on Friday while undergoing treatment after setting himself on fire outside the Department of Passports (DoP) in Tripureshwor.
Issuing a statement on Friday, KMC expressed deep sorrow over Nepali’s death and extended condolences to his grieving family. Nepali, a native of Mugu who was residing in Bhaktapur, had attempted self-immolation outside the DoP on Thursday, allegedly after facing difficulties related to obtaining a passport.

KMC said it would extend full cooperation to the investigation committee formed by the Ministry of Home Affairs to look into the incident. The metropolis also pledged to implement necessary corrective measures based on the committee’s findings and recommendations.
As part of its support, KMC said it would provide humanitarian assistance to Nepali’s family. The metropolitan executive is also expected to decide at its upcoming meeting on providing employment to one family member and ensuring free education for Nepali’s children in line with existing legal provisions.
KMC further said it would coordinate with the federal government to identify measures to prevent similar incidents in the future and strengthen institutional mechanisms for addressing cases involving citizens facing severe hardships.
