Bhandari appeared before the media alongside party leader Dr Sunil Sharma, both of whom had visited Bhirkutimandap, venue for the Special General Convention, and publicly praised General Secretaries Gagan Thapa and Bishwrakash Sharma for their initiative related to the special convention .
At the press meet, Bhandari urged all factions to prioritise unity, warning that the existence of rigid opposing camps would only weaken the party. He called for the special general convention to be limited to passing a resolution of commitment and moving forward, while also stressing that the establishment faction must take ownership of the process.
“Two hard lines will only push the party into difficulty,” Bhandari said. “Our position is to keep both sides together. Our political line is clear: the party must not split, must not deteriorate, and must uphold the historic responsibility of leading the country.”
Bhandari said he was prepared to participate in the convention if it helped consolidate the party and equally ready to step aside if that was deemed necessary for the party’s strength.
Bhandari also noted that the convention should have been convened earlier to energise the organisation following what he described as a “Gen Z movement” within the NC. He argued that once the process moved toward a special convention, the party’s central committee should have embraced it.
