KATHMANDU, Jan 7: Kulman Ghising has announced his decision to enter full-time politics following his resignation from the cabinet on Wednesday evening.
Addressing a press conference at the Ministry of Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation after submitting his resignation to Prime Minister Sushila Karki, Ghising said his future journey would now be political.
“I have completed 115 days in the Cabinet, during which I was entrusted with three ministries. I have just resigned from my ministerial post. From tomorrow [ i.e. Thursday], my political life begins,” Ghising said.

Ghising had been overseeing the ministries of Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation; Physical Infrastructure and Transport and Urban Development.
Recalling that he had accepted the ministerial responsibility at the Prime Minister’s special request, he urged that his resignation should not be seen as an attempt to evade responsibility.
“I now stand as a responsible citizen. Standing for the country and the people is important not only while holding office but also outside of it. Self-respect stands above the chair,” he said.
Ghising also clarified his party affiliation, stating that although there is an understanding with the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP), it has not yet been formally implemented and he has not taken membership of any political party so far.
Noting that there is precedent in Nepal for ministers contesting elections while remaining in office, Ghising said he preferred to move forward only after relinquishing his post.
He said his time in the ministries allowed him to understand closely why work often fails to be completed on time, adding that despite the short tenure, he had laid the foundation for meaningful work. “I may have stepped out of office, but I will never step away from the people’s cause, the national interest and the path of truth,” he said.
