According to Minister for Communications and Information Technology Jagadish Kharel, who is also the government spokesperson, the discussions will primarily focus on election-related preparations, political coordination and issues surrounding the timely conduct of the HoR polls.
“The talks aim to build consensus on creating a conducive political environment for elections and addressing concerns raised by political parties,” Minister Kharel said.
The meeting comes amid a fluid political situation following the Gen-Z movement, which has added pressure on the government to ensure stability and restore trust among political stakeholders. In response, the government has intensified consultations with political parties in an effort to ease tensions and reaffirm its commitment to holding elections on schedule.
On Friday morning, Minister Kharel held separate meetings with top leaders of major political parties at their respective residences. During those interactions, party leaders stressed the need for a favourable political and security environment, emphasising that elections remain the only viable democratic pathway to resolving the current political deadlock.
The government has maintained that holding timely and credible elections is a priority and that broad-based political cooperation is essential to that end. Friday’s Baluwatar meeting is seen as a key step towards bridging differences among major parties and ensuring smooth electoral preparations in the coming weeks.
