KATHMANDU, Jan 7: Nepali Congress (NC) General Secretaries Gagan Thapa and Bishwoprakash Sharma have called for a special party convention.
The convention is scheduled for January 11 and 12 at Bhrikuti Mandap in Kathmandu. In their appeal to delegates, the two leaders emphasized that the party constitution does not allow for a request for a special convention to be ignored once submitted. “The constitution does not grant anyone the authority to deem a constitutionally requested special convention as irrelevant or unwarranted,” they stated.

They further stressed that a convention automatically becomes operative and must take place within the stipulated time. “We have repeatedly highlighted in party meetings that we are committed to the special convention demanded by the majority of delegates,” Thapa and Sharma said.
Accordingly, the special convention scheduled for January 11 and 12 is considered both legally and politically mandatory. Failing to convene it would violate the party's constitution and laws governing political parties.
The leaders called on all delegates to participate actively to ensure the convention is conducted in an organized and grand manner.
