BAITADI, Feb 8: The District Police Office, Baitadi, has collected 386 firearms from across the district as part of preparations for the upcoming House of Representatives election.
Police said the collection drive was launched to prevent the possible misuse of weapons during the election period and to minimize risks to public safety and security.
11 licensed firearms submitted in Chitwan
According to police, licensed firearm holders were formally notified following a public notice issued by the District Administration Office on January 20. In line with that notice, police units mobilized personnel and disseminated information through social media to ensure compliance, said police spokesperson and Inspector Baldev Badu.
Baitadi district has issued a total of 1,086 licenses for firearms. Of these, 450 license holders renewed their permits in the current fiscal year, according to Vinod Bhattarai, information officer at the District Administration Office.
As not all licensed weapons have yet been submitted, the deadline for depositing firearms has been extended until the end of Magh (mid-February), police said.
Authorities stated that the collected firearms will be stored securely throughout the election period and returned to their respective owners once the polls are completed. The police added that such measures will continue as part of efforts to maintain peace and security during elections.
