KATHMANDU: The Nepal Paediatric Society (NEPAS) has called on all political parties to use the upcoming parliamentary elections as an opportunity to ensure child health and child rights by clearly incorporating child-friendly policies, programmes and adequate investment in their manifestos.

Issuing a statement on Monday, NEPAS said that election manifestos shape the country’s future direction and must therefore place child health and rights on the national agenda for long-term development.

NEPAS urged parties to recognise child health as a national priority, increase public investment in maternal, neonatal, infant, and adolescent care, implement multi-sectoral programmes to end malnutrition, and ensure equal access to free, high-quality healthcare for all children.

It also stressed strengthening legal and institutional mechanisms to eliminate child violence, child marriage and child labour, and guaranteeing child-friendly policies, plans and budgets at all levels of the federal structure.

Society president Dr Arun Kumar Neupane said meaningful development is impossible without child-centred policies and called on parties to make clear, measurable and implementable commitments to child health and rights through their manifestos.
