KATHMANDU, Feb 3: Transport entrepreneurs have urged political parties and election candidates to give priority to the public transport sector in their election manifestos.
The call was made by Punya Prasad Sitaula, senior vice-chairperson of the Nepal Transport Entrepreneurs National Federation (NTENF), who stressed the need for policy commitments aimed at reforming the sector.

He said that the NTENF would extend electoral support to parties and candidates that prioritise improvements in public transport.
NTENF has also appealed to transport entrepreneurs and workers across the country to exert pressure on political parties to include concrete commitments for public transport reform in their election agendas.
Sitaula warned that political parties that fail to focus on making the transport sector more technology-friendly could face electoral setbacks in the upcoming elections.
He further urged parties to commit, in their election manifestos, to policy measures that would facilitate the import of transport vehicles, saying such reforms are essential for the sector’s sustainability.
