KATHMANDU, March 30 :The Supreme Court (SC) has issued show cause orders seeking written explanations from the government over the arrests of CPN-UML Chair and former Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli and Nepali Congress (NC) leader and former Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak.
In response to separate writ petitions filed by their wives, demanding the release of the detained leaders, single benches of the apex court justice asked the authorities to submit written responses through the Attorney General's Office within three days of receiving the notice.

The court also requested the submission of investigation files, including reports prepared by the commission headed by former Justice Gauri Bahadur Karki, which had examined the incidents during the protests on September 8 and 9, (Oli and Lekhak cases) and recommended prosecution of both leaders.
Oli was detained from his residence last Saturday after the newly-elected government decided to implement the probe commission’s recommendations, while Lekhak was arrested the same day in line with the probe commission’s report on the same protests.
