KATHMANDU, Jan 6: Despite a massive fire at a timber warehouse in Sinamangal, Kathmandu, flight arrivals and departures at Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA) have not been affected, the airport office said.
Although thick plumes of smoke from the fire covered the skies around the airport area, no changes were made to the flight schedule, according to TIA Spokesperson Rinji Sherpa.
Low visibility affects flights at TIA
Speaking to Republica, Sherpa said, “There was an initial discussion on whether flights should be halted after the heavy smoke was observed. However, after assessing the situation and finding no risk to flight operations, services were not suspended. Flights are currently operating as usual.”
A sudden fire broke out at a warehouse in Gairigaun, Sinamangal, in the afternoon, sending large clouds of black smoke into the sky.
The TIA has clarified that the smoke does not pose any risk to aviation safety and that the situation remains normal.
