22,000 taxpayers fail to pay tax in Janakpur

JANAKPURDHAM, Aug 11: As many as 22,000 taxpayers who have been issued with the business PAN numbers failed to deposit tax at the Internal Revenue Office Janakpur.



A total of 37,000 business taxpayers are registered with the Office. Of them, only 15,000 taxpayers have paid the annual tax, it is said. The Office has made it clear that legal action would be taken against those failing to pay tax.  


The Office took legal action against 20 businessmen and firms that failed to foot the tax even when notified for time and again, and collected more than Rs 100 million in revenue last fiscal year, said Office Chief Kishor Bartaula.

Twenty business firms have paid their taxes after the Office issued notice warning of legal action and penalty on 178 business firms failing to pay tax for long.


The Internal Revenue Office Janakpur stated that revenue collection has increased in fiscal year 2023/24 as compared to the fiscal year 2022/23. The Office collected a revenue of Rs 3.44 billion as against the target of Rs 3.70 billion in fiscal year 2022/23.


It collected Rs 4.47 billion in the last fiscal year 2023/24, Bartaula added. The Office said the revenue increased by 11 per cent in fiscal year 2023/24 compared to the preceding fiscal year.
