KATHMANDU, July 23: Major highways and road sections across the country have been affected by landslides and floods triggered by incessant rainfall.
Publishing an update on road conditions as of 9:30 am today, Nepal Police said vehicular movement has been completely halted on roads in seven districts, while vehicle entry has been restricted on some road sections during nighttime.
Floods and landslides disrupt eight highways across Nepal
The movement of all types of vehicles has been suspended on the Khurkot–Nepalthok–Katunjebesi section of the BP Highway from 6:00 pm to 4:00 am until further notice due to the risk of flooding.
Similarly, vehicle entry on the Kanti Highway in Makawanpur has been prohibited from 5:00 pm to 5:00 am until further notice because of continuous rainfall.
According to police, the Mechi Highway has been completely blocked at Ilam Municipality-9 after rainfall left the road muddy. Likewise, landslides have completely obstructed the Araniko Highway at Bhotekoshi Rural Municipality-4 and Bhotekoshi Rural Municipality-2 in Sindhupalchowk.
Vehicular movement along the Kaligandaki Corridor at Jaimini Rural Municipality-8 in Baglung has also come to a complete standstill due to a landslide.
Similarly, the Lamabagar–Ramechhap road section at Tamakoshi Rural Municipality-5 in Dolakha has been completely blocked after the Tamakoshi River overflowed onto the road. A landslide at Chhayanath Rara Municipality-7 in Mugu has also completely obstructed the Nagma–Gamgadhi road section.
