KATHMANDU, July 23: The government is preparing to relocate squatter families evicted from riverbanks in the Kathmandu Valley to their permanent home districts, asking those currently staying in temporary holding centers to contact the relevant district committees or local governments.
In a notice issued on Wednesday, the Land Problem Resolution Commission said 29 families identified through digital records compiled by the High-Powered Bagmati Civilization Integrated Development Committee have been recommended for land management in their respective home districts.
Rural municipality purchases land for 19 squatter families
According to the commission, the Ministry of Land Management, Cooperatives and Poverty Alleviation and the Ministry of Federal Affairs and General Administration directed the Department of Land Management and Archives to verify whether the identified families owned land anywhere in Nepal. After confirming that none of the families owned land, the commission recommended that land be provided to them in their home districts.
The commission said it has already forwarded the beneficiaries’ digital records, application forms and other required documents to the respective district committees.
The published list shows that the beneficiaries are originally from Sindhuli, Sarlahi, Kathmandu, Sunsari, Dhankuta, Morang, Sindhupalchok, Mahottari, Jhapa and Bhojpur, among other districts.
The families are currently being housed temporarily at holding centers established at the Nepal Red Cross training center in Banepa, the Radha Soami Satsang premises in Kirtipur, the Drinking Water Training Center in Nagarkot and the Agricultural Training Center in Bode, Bhaktapur.
