Flood sweeps away truck, driver swims to safety

HETAUDA, July 13: A flash flood in the Karra River swept away an empty truck near the Shivam Cement Factory in Hetauda Sub-metropolitan City, Ward No. 17, on Monday morning.

According to police, the incident occurred at around 7:45 a.m. when rising floodwaters overflowed a culvert built with hume pipes. The 12-wheeler Eicher truck, bearing registration number Na 7 Kha 765, was returning after unloading stones at the cement factory when it was swept away.


The driver, 34-year-old Dipak Thing of Ratnanagar Municipality, Ward No. 13 in Chitwan, managed to swim to safety. He sustained minor injuries to his leg and was taken to Raju Medical in Chaughada for treatment.


Police teams from the Hatiya Temporary Police Post and the Pashupatinagar Area Police Office reached the site soon after receiving information about the incident.


Police said no other casualties were reported. The truck remains in the river, and efforts are underway to recover it.
