Supreme Court withholds dismissal of five parliamentarians

JANAKPURDHAM, Nov 18: The Supreme Court issued an order to withhold the decision of the Madhesh Province speaker to dismiss five provincial assembly members.



Speaker Ram Chandra Mandal had dismissed five provincial assembly members of Janata Samajwadi Party Nepal and Nagarik Unmukti Party from their posts on November 13.

A single bench of Supreme Court Justice Nityanand Pandey handed down the order on Monday, asking Madhesh Provincial Assembly Speaker Mandal not to dismiss the five provincial assembly members immediately.


Janata Samajwadi Party Nepal provincial assembly members Manish Kumar Suman, Sanjay Kumar Yadav, Sinhasan Sah Kalwar and Sharda Shankar Sah, as well as Nagarik Unmukti Party's Urmila Singh were dismissed for being absent from the provincial assembly meetings for 10 consecutive days.


The dismissed provincial assembly members had filed a writ petition in the Supreme Court challenging the Speaker's decision.
