Father, son arrested on charge of child marriage in Parsa

PARSA, Feb 27: A groom and his father were arrested on the charge of marrying a teenage girl in Parsa.



Police arrested a 19 years old boy and his father of Laxmi Tole of Birgunj Metropolitan City-16 on the charge of marrying a 17 years old girl of the same place on Friday.

Police have made both of them public today, however, their names have not been disclosed. 


According to information officer at the District Police Office, Parsa, DSP Manojeet Kuwar, the groom and his father were arrested on the charge of child marriage and further investigation is underway. “Both the arrested were presented at the District Court of Parsa on Friday and the court has granted a week for further investigation into the case,” he added.


According to the National Criminal Code, marriage between boys and girls under the age of 20 is considered a social crime and such marriage automatically gets annulled.


Likewise, one involved in such offence is imprisoned for three years and fined up to Rs 30,000. (With inputs from RSS)
