KATHMANDU, May 25: The Fifth National Social Entrepreneurship Conference has begun in Kathmandu, according to a press release.
The two-day event, organized by the Social Entrepreneurship Fund under the Social Welfare Council in collaboration with Nepal Development Initiative and partner organizations, was inaugurated at Bhrikutimandap, the press release said.
According to the press release, Acting Executive Director of the Social Welfare Council, Sanjay Kumar Mallik, said entrepreneurship can play an important role in Nepal’s economic growth and social entrepreneurship can help address social challenges while supporting development.
'We want to start a movement of social entrepreneurship'
The press release further said that representatives from all 77 districts are participating in the conference, which will focus on policies, practices, and challenges in the sector over two days.
Arjun Bhattarai, President of the NGO Federation of Nepal and Nepal Development Initiative, said social entrepreneurship aims to identify social problems and create sustainable solutions, according to the press release.
The conference also includes an exhibition of products made by marginalized social entrepreneurs from all seven provinces, featuring over 20 stalls of handicrafts, indigenous products, and agricultural goods, the press release said.
The Social Entrepreneurship Fund, introduced by the Government of Nepal in 2020, supports research and development of social enterprises, according to the press release.
