KATHMANDU, July 12: The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority (NDRRMA) has urged the public to remain on high alert as heavy to extremely heavy rainfall is forecast across several parts of the country on Sunday and Monday.
According to a notice issued by the authority on Saturday, based on forecasts from the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology, heavy to very heavy rainfall is likely on Sunday and Monday in a few hilly areas of Koshi, Bagmati, and Gandaki provinces, as well as in one or two places in the Tarai of Madhesh, Koshi, Bagmati, and Gandaki provinces.

The authority also said some hilly areas of Koshi, Bagmati, and Gandaki provinces could receive extremely heavy rainfall.
It warned that the expected rain could trigger flash floods, landslides, soil erosion, debris flows, and urban and lowland flooding. The public has been advised to take necessary precautions and prepare for possible emergencies.
People have been urged to avoid traveling near flood prone rivers, streams, and creeks, while residents living in landslide prone areas and along riverbanks have been asked to exercise extra caution.
The authority has also directed the Nepal Police, Armed Police Force, Nepal Army, local governments, volunteers, and other concerned agencies to remain on standby for rescue and emergency response operations. It has instructed authorities to keep dozers, excavators, loaders, and other essential equipment ready along highways and roads vulnerable to disasters.
Partner organizations involved in disaster preparedness and response have been asked to coordinate closely with district and local disaster management committees.
In emergencies, the authority has advised the public to contact the flood and rainfall information service at 1155, the disaster assistance hotline at 1234, Nepal Police at 100, or the Armed Police Force at 1114.
The public has also been urged to regularly follow updated weather forecasts, early warnings, and advisories issued by the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology and the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority.
