The unity announcement, made under Yadav’s leadership, was attended by JSP leader Pradeep Yadav, JSP-Nepal Chair Upendra Yadav, and leader Ram Kumar Sharma.
The faction led by Vice-Chair Yadav has claimed that it commands the support of a majority of the party’s central members. Earlier, JSP leader Rajendra Shrestha had broken away and merged with the Communist Party of Nepal. With the remaining central members, Vice-Chair Yadav has now moved ahead with the merger with JSP-Nepal.
It had been stated earlier that if Ashok Rai remained unwilling, the Yadav faction would proceed with the unification independently. On Sunday, an agreement was also reached between the Loktantrik Samajwadi Party Nepal, led by Mahantha Thakur, and JSP-Nepal, led by Upendra Yadav, to move toward unification.
