KATHMANDU, July 15: Nepali Congress (NC) leader Dr Shekhar Koirala has expressed surprise that a minister who should have been dismissed is instead attending Cabinet meetings by cozying up to the Prime Minister. He remarked that while the opposition ritualistically demands resignations in Parliament, the coalition partner, the NC, has become nothing more than a "silent spectator on the sidelines.”
Taking to Facebook on Tuesday, Koirala wrote referring to Minister for Federal Affairs and General Administration Rajkumar Gupta, who has become controversial after the audio recording was related to a bribery scandal. “Middlemen arrive early in the minister's quarters and drop off bribe-filled briefcases. Despite evidence against him, instead of being dismissed, the minister chats sweetly with the PM and joins cabinet meetings.”

Criticizing his own party’s passive stance, Dr Koirala added, “While the opposition symbolically demands resignations in Parliament, we—the coalition partner—have become ‘witnesses standing on the shore.’”
Expressing his dismay over the prevailing irregularities and distortions, he concluded, “So, this is how things work here.”
