KATHMANDU, May 15: Nepali Congress (NC) parliamentary party leader Bishmaraj Angdembe has demanded an impartial investigation into allegations against former Home Minister Sudan Gurung.
Angdembe expressed concern that the government-formed probe committee may attempt to absolve Gurung instead of uncovering the truth, and warned against any effort to “clear” him through the investigation process.
“Let the committee conduct a fair investigation; it should not be used only to exonerate someone,” he said.
Home Minister Sudan Gurung resigns, seeks fair investigation
Gurung had resigned from the post of Home Minister on April 22 after being implicated in alleged financial ties with middleman Deepak Bhatta. The Home Ministry is currently being handled by Prime Minister Balen Shah.
Angdembe also urged the government not to shield anyone involved in the case.
The government has formed a three-member investigation committee led by former High Court judge Achyut Prasad Bhattarai to probe the allegations against Gurung and submit a report.
The committee is expected to examine financial links between Gurung and Bhatt and clarify the facts surrounding the case.
