Nepal sees only 12.11% women candidates in HoR poll nominations

According to the Election Commission, only 12.11 percent of the candidates who filed nominations are women. While briefing journalists on the nomination process, the EC noted the low number of women candidates.

KATHMANDU, Jan 21: Political parties appear to have paid little attention to selecting women candidates for the House of Representatives (HoR) election scheduled for March 5.

According to the Election Commission (EC), only 12.11 percent of the candidates who filed nominations are women. While briefing journalists on the nomination process, the EC noted the low number of women candidates.


According to the EC, a total of 3,428 candidates have filed their nominations. Of them, 3,037 are men and 391 are women, said EC Assistant Spokesperson Kul Bahadur GC. In terms of participation, women account for just 12.11 percent.
