KATHMANDU, October 27: The Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FNCCI) has urged the government to investigate and take action against those involved in looting, vandalism, and arson against industries, businesses, and private property during the Gen Z movement and to ensure security.

Expressing its concerns over the government’s failure to accept written complaints against those accused in the incidents, the private sector has drawn the government's attention stating that such a move could promote a culture of impunity and also discourage businesspersons.

“Such incidents have not only weakened the morale of the private sector but have also created negative impacts on economic activities,” reads a statement issued by the FNCCI.

The FNCCI further mentioned that this will have a long-term impact on job creation, revenue collection, investment promotion and the overall economy. The umbrella organisation of the private sector has also sought to join hands with the chairpersons and representatives of the respective district and municipal chambers of commerce and industry at the central and district-level security committees to ensure the security of the private sector.

The FNCCI has requested its own and member associations to participate in the committees to ensure direct participation of the business community in government-private sector coordination at all levels and especially in the district-level security plan, risk assessment and emergency decision-making process.

The private sector has underscored the importance of peace and security for the stability and business operations. Ensuring a conducive investment environment and raising the morale of industrialists are among the immediate demands of the FNCCI.
