Kathmandu, Oct 19: Leader of the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP), Dr. Toshima Karki, has publicly raised concerns over the recent expansion of the party’s secretariat, calling for more democratic processes and inclusive decision-making within the organization.

Taking to social media, Karki criticized the leadership for appointing new secretariat members without holding the party’s scheduled extended meeting. The meeting was intended to deliberate on internal reforms and the party’s policy regarding the upcoming general convention.

The controversy follows a virtual central committee meeting held on Saturday, in which party President Rabi Lamichhane nominated four members to the secretariat under Article 26 of the party's statute. Acting President Dol Prasad Aryal also nominated an additional four members.

“The agenda of reformation was being raised in the party. An extended meeting was scheduled for that. However, the secretariat was expanded without even holding the extended meeting scheduled to be held in two weeks,” Karki wrote.

The RSP recently nominated Sobita Gautam, Ganesh Parajuli, Shishir Khanal, and Hari Dhakal as new members of the secretariat. However, Karki contended that this decision bypassed democratic procedures and failed to reflect the aspirations of party members.

“This is not the reformation we are looking for. It is a change in the executive leadership,” she added. “I say again, we need to be more democratic. It is necessary to correct the working style. The grassroots of the organization should be able to feel a sense of belonging in the party's activities.”

She emphasized the need for broad participation and voting rights for party members in the upcoming extended meeting.

Karki's remarks signal growing unease within the party over internal governance and transparency.
