KATHMANDU, May 30: The Communist Party of Nepal (Unified Marxist–Leninist), has criticized the budget presented by the government led by Balen Shah.

UML General Secretary Shankar Pokharel said the budget contains many promises of development and prosperity but lacks corresponding priorities.
Pokharel argued that major development projects have received less attention than before, while recurrent expenditure continues to rise despite government claims of spending cuts. He also criticized reductions in the budgets of the youth and sports, industry, agriculture, and forestry sectors, saying they send the message that the government prefers a remittance-driven economy over domestic production and self-reliance.
He further claimed the budget does little to address public insecurity following destructive incidents in September and criticized cuts to the Home Ministry budget, arguing that investment and job creation cannot thrive without strong law and order.
